The 'Wealden' bowl

30cm x 18cm - A carved oak bowl. This is the first bowl in the 'Wealden' series and represents a coming together of knowledge and experience that was gained from years of carving the 'Stone' bowl series. Understanding the unique and beautiful movement oak has across its every fibre and working to draw from it the strength it inherently holds, contained within a gloriously simple and grounded form. A strong wide stance at the base, rising with confident lines to its peek width at 2/5's height then on, up and inwards to a small overhang around the top edge.
 
Like the 'Stone' series, the bowl has a scuffed, layered texture running inside and out. The bowl does not have finishing oils / waxes / balms and remains natural. It is the wood itself that you see and touch, not a layer of applied treatment. The bowl will subtly and slowly age, deepening and strengthening its character
