'Viscera'

29cm x 26cm - 'Viscera' - i.e. intestines.  Carved from a single piece of oak. 'Viscera' takes shape around the void left from a dead branch. It has richness in colour from several years of decay which enhances its internal, organic sense. 
 
This piece has elements which have been burnished with the handle of my knife. I chose this method to bring a lustre to the 'entrance', to reveal the detail in the wood and to provide contrast with the guts of the piece.
 
No oil or wax. This piece is natural wood
